Reward increases in case of Miss. teen burned to death

BATESVILLE, Miss. -- The reward for information in the death of a Mississippi teen burned to death has grown.

The FBI is offering $25,000 in addition to $18,000 already being offered in the case of Jessica Chambers. The nineteen-year-old, of Courtland, was found near her burning car on Dec. 6 in the northern part of the state.

Chambers had been burned over 98 percent of her body. She later died.

Investigators classified her death as a homicide.

Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies have been investigating. So far, no arrest has been made, and authorities haven't developed a prime suspect despite more than 100 interviews, reports the Jackson Clarion-Ledger.

Panola County District Attorney John Champion said he hopes the reward will encourage someone with information about the crime to speak up.

"A lot of things in this world are money-driven, and we're hoping that there's someone out there that know something that sees the reward and is willing to come forward," Champion told the paper.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of North Central Mississippi at (800) 729-2169.
