TOMS RIVER, New Jersey (CBS/AP) One of the sun-tanned personalities of MTV's reality show "Jersey Shore" has been indicted on an assault charge for an incident prosecutors say happened off camera while taping the first season.

The indictment handed up Thursday in Ocean County, N.J., says Ronald "Ronnie" Ortiz-Magro caused "significant bodily injury to Stephen Izzo...causing him to lose consciousness..." reports celebrity gossip site TMZ.

While the alleged punch was not shown on the show, the buff 25-year-old was reportedly seen bragging about the incident, which occurred Sept. 4, 2009 when the show was being filmed in Seaside Heights.

Prosecutors told The Asbury Park Press that they had hoped to resolve the case without an indictment.

According to TMZ, Izzo has an pending lawsuit against Oritz-Magro, MTV and the producers of the show. Oritz-Magro faces one count of third-degree assault, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in state prison, reports TMZ.

To quote from the MTV web site about the series: "Ronnie might find himself in a brawl or two, but he is a lover who just wants to have a good time."
