Jeff Bridges on chances of "Big Lebowski" sequel
(CBS) The Dude abides. Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges spoke with CBSNews.com on the New York red carpet in celebration of the Blu-Ray DVD release of "The Big Lebowski," and he told us whether or not he thinks we'll ever see the infamous Dude on the big screen again.

Bridges said, "I haven't heard anything about a sequel. I'd be surprised if the Coen Brothers [who wrote and directed "The Big Lebowski"] came up with a sequel."
But fans of the 1998 cult classic perhaps shouldn't give up hope just yet. Bridges added, "That being said...As The Stranger (the film's narrator, voiced by Sam Elliot) says, he happens to know that Maude (The Dude's love interest, portrayed by Julianne Moore) has got a little Dude in the oven, right? So it's set up...or maybe just leave it at that, you know?"
Speculation of a follow-up ensued after the actress who portrayed the conniving Bunny Lebowski in the film, Tara Reid (who was not in attendance at the Blu-Ray release party), announced that a sequel was indeed in the works. The Coen Brothers subsequently denied that this was true.
And with many viewers still calling for a new installment, Bridges is still astonished by the film's strong fan base.
"Yeah, I'm surprised," Bridges revealed, "This has turned into a phenomenon, this thing...I mean I'm prejudiced, I'm in it. It's kind of like one of my kids...but it's a great movie."
The Blu-Ray edition of "The Big Lebowski" is now available in stores.
