(CBS/AP) SAO PAULO - Police in South Brazil say a jealous husband hit his wife over the head with a pet poodle.

The man picked up the animal and swung it into his wife's head twice because he suspected she was having an affaire, according to officials. The 4-pound dog reportedly died while Carla de Camargo Oliveira, the wife, suffered only minor bruises.

The alleged assailant was not arrested for the incident because officers deemed that the attack was not highly dangerous to the woman and he was not caught in the act.

However police did say Wednesday that they are urging prosecutors to charge him with assault and battery and cruelty to animals.
