Janzen, Ozaki Atop TPC Leaderboard


PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- 1993 U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen shot a 5-under-par 67 and Joe Ozaki shot a 68 to take a share of the lead Friday in the second round of the Players Championship.

Early in the day, Janzen, starting from the 10th hole, scored birdies on Nos. 12, 15, 16 and 17, then finished his round with another birdie on No. 9 to improve to 7 under. Ozaki, who shot a 69 in the first round, fired a 33 on the front nine Friday.

Tom Kite, who shot a 66, is one shot back at 6-under 138.

First-round leader Glen Day shot a 1-over-par 73 on Friday and fell to 5 under. Day squandered his one-shot lead by bogeying three of the first six holes. He scored birdies on Nos. 3 and 8.

Bruce Lietzke (70 on Friday) and Jerry Kelly (71) are also in the clubhouse at 5 under. Scott Gump (68), David Frost (71), Jeff Maggert (71), Len Mattiace (71) and Rocco Mediate (73) finished at 4 under.

    Hurst Alone In Front At Dinah Shore

    RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. -- First-round co-leader Pat Hurst now has the lead all to herself at the Nabisco Dinah Shore, the first major tournament on the LPGA Tour schedule.

    Hurst is at 5 under after three holes Friday. Hurst, a winner once in her three years on the tour, and Rachel Hetherington, looking for her first victory, each shot 4-under-par 68 on Thursday. Hetherington is at 1 under through 16 holes.

    Liselotte Neumann had shot 3 under par through 12 holes Friday to take a two-shot lead, but slipped to 4 under. Lisa Hackney is at 4 under through 12 holes.

    Nancy Lopez had shot 3 under through the first seven holes to catch the co-leaders, but lost two strokes over the next four holes and finished at 2 under.

    Seniors Battle Final Four In Texas

    SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- College basketball's Final Four is not the only sporting event taking place this weekend in San Antonio.

    David Graham, who already has one victory on the Senior Tour this year, looks to defend his title at the $1 million Southwestern Bell Dominion at the Dominion Country Club.

    The Australian is attempting to join Lee Trevino and Jim Albus as the only players to win this tournament twice. Trevino (1991-92) and Albus (1994-95) won in consecutive years.
