Jane Goodall gives Jon Stewart a "chimpanzee greeting" on "The Daily Show"
(CBS News) Dr. Jane Goodall gave Jon Stewart a "proper chimpanzee greeting" when she visited "The Daily Show" Monday night. They embraced in a "chimp hug" -- with ape noises.
The 78-year-old conservation advocate and chimpanzee aficionado is the spokesperson for the upcoming Disneynature documentary, "Chimpanzee," opening April 20.
Tim Allen narrates the film, which follows Oscar, a young chimpanzee living in the Ivory Coast's Tai Forest National Park. Oscar has to learn how to live with an extended family of about 36 chimps, led by an elder chimp named Freddy.
"Honestly, it's so moving," Goodall said about the film directed by Alastair Fothergill, and Mark Linfield. "It brings tears to your eyes."
And the movie is kid-friendly, says Goodall.
"I think actually what children are lacking is contact with nature .... We didn't have these films when I was young ... By and large there was no television and that certainly didn't harm me, " the British primatologist told the Canadian Press. "Films like this, yes, they're great compared to the video games, which mostly are absolutely terrible."
"Chimpanzee" opens on Earth Day. Portions of ticket sales during the first week will go to the Jane Goodall Institute.
