(CBS) James Blunt sparked fury among Polish fans when he posted a photo over the weekend with a caption joking about a building reportedly near Auschwitz.

The photo, which was posted on Saturday, shows the singer posing in front of a building under construction. The caption reads: "Errr, this is my hotel in Poland."

His remark led to more than 5,000 comments on his Facebook page. Some defended the singer, while others criticized the comment and accused him of being insensitive and rude.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the photo was still posted on his Facebook page.

Blunt was in Poland to perform at the Life Festival at Mosir Stadium, a few miles from the Auschwitz concentration camp. According to the Daily Mail, Blunt was actually staying at a five-star hotel, the Niebieski Art Hotel and Spa, in nearby Krakow during the tour stop, and came across the building while out sightseeing after the concert.
