(CBS) LOCKPORT, La. - Police have arrested a man who they believe may have been involved in the deaths of 29-year-old Louisiana mother Jacqueline Nieves and her two young daughters, 20-month-old Isabella and 6-year-old Gabriella, reports CBS affiliate WWL.

According to the station, David Brown, 34, was arrested Sunday after allegedly breaking into an apartment adjacent to the Nieves' and attacking a person there.

Brown has not yet been charged in the murders, but officials said they have gathered 'compelling evidence' connecting Brown to the triple homicide and expect charges to follow.

Emergency crews discovered the Nieves' bodies while responding to a fire inside the family's apartment at around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, the station reports. The children's father, Carlos Nieves Jr., reported the blaze.

Investigators reportedly believe the victims were stabbed. Autopsy results have not yet been released.

Although he is being held on $110,000 bond, officials say Brown cannot be released because of a hold from the state probation and parole department, WWL reports.
