Jacob Cordero, Texas gang member, sentenced to 99 years for opening fire at a party, killing a woman
(CBS/AP) FORT WORTH, Texas - A North Texas man has been sentenced to 99 years in prison for killing a woman when he opened fire at a rival gang's house party, also leaving seven people wounded, according to CBS Dallas.
A jury in Fort Worth found 22-year-old Jacob Cordero guilty of murder, engaging in organized criminal activity and aggravated assault.
Investigators say Cordero, who was sentenced Monday, used an assault rifle in the shooting that took place October 22, 2011.
According to the station, Cordero was beaten up in Fort Worth by a member of the rival gang and after finding out about the party, he decided to retaliate. Cordero reportedly fired 26 shots into the crowd with an AK-47, killing 21-year-old Christina Davila and injuring seven others.
Parts of the rifle were later found in a lake.
CBS Dallas reports it took police more than eight months to gather enough evidence and charge Cordero. Prosecutor Michelle Dobson said, "This defendant might have gotten away with this cowardly act if not for the persistence of Fort Worth homicide."
