<i>The Sixth Sense</i> Is A Winner

The Sixth Sense was named favorite film of 1999 in the first award show of the new millennium Sunday night.

Notting Hill and Runaway Bride star Julia Roberts was named favorite actress and Random Hearts star Harrison Ford was named favorite actor at the People's Choice Awards Sunday. The awards show, hosted by Don Johnson and Cheech Marin, honors the best in music, movies,and television

Although not present for their awards, Ricky Martin, Shania Twain, and Backstreet Boys all won for favorite musical male, female and group performer.

TV stars Calista Flockhart of Ally McBeal and Drew Carey of The Drew Carey Show" and the TV shows Friends and ER also were honored at the 26th annual awards.

The ghost story The Sixth Sense won the overall movie and dramatic film categories. Adam Sandler was the favorite comedy star and his movie Big Daddy won the comedy movie category.

Most winners were chosen by a Gallup poll in which a random sampling of more than 100 million Americans picked their favorites in movies, television and music. The awards show was aired live by CBS from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

  • Favorite Dramatic Motion Picture: The Sixth Sense.
  • Favorite Comedy Motion Picture: Big Daddy.
  • Favorite Motion Picture Star in a Comedy: Adam Sandler.
  • Favorite Motion Picture Star in a Drama: Bruce Willis.
  • Favorite Motion Picture Actor: Harrison Ford.
  • Favorite Motion Picture Actress: Julia Roberts.
  • Favorite Male Television Performer: Drew Carey.
  • Favorite Female Television Performer: Calista Flockhart.
  • Favorite Male Performer in a New Television Series: Billy Campbell, Once and Again.
  • Favorite Female Performer in a New Television Series: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Time Of Your Life.
  • Favorite Television Comedy Series: Friends.
  • Favorite Television Dramatic Series: ER.
  • Favorite Male Musical Performer: Ricky Martin.
  • Favorite Female Musical Performer: Shania Twain.
  • Favorite Musical Group or Band: Backstreet Boys.

Two categories were chosen by Internet voting that began in December:
  • Favorite New Television Comedy Series: Stark Raving Mad.
  • Favorite New Television Dramatic Series: Providence.
