ISP: Bogus Beauty Queen?
The mystery continues down in Puerto Rico two weeks after the dramatic conclusion of a beauty pageant that caught international attention.
A contestant, Ingrid Marie Rivera, was reportedly iced down and given cortisone after she developed hives and swelling backstage. Rivera later told police that her gown and makeup were spiked with pepper spray. Despite the alleged sabotage, she won the contest and was crowned Miss Puerto Rico Universe.
Everyone wanted to believe this story. It sounded like a real triumph for this young woman. Now, it seems the truth may be a more complicated.
Investigators did not find any trace of pepper spray on her gown. Witnesses have said she was swollen backstage, but there are reportedly no photos. While the pageant organizers still maintain there was foul play, police are now questioning the witnesses to determine if someone, including Rivera, may have lied to the police.
But why would she lie? She won the contest, after all. Rather than perpetuate rumors and half-truths, let's just wait and see what the police say after they finish another round of interviews.
Speaking of rumors, the gay escort who brought down the Evanglical minister Ted Haggard is back in the news again. Mike Jones is now claiming that Sen. Larry Craig hired him for sex a few years ago. He is one of eight men who have come forward to reveal sexual encounters or advances involving Craig. The Senator's staff says Mike Jones is just out to sell books, and there is no truth to the story.
In other news, Tay Zonday is back. The "Chocolate Rain" king is now starring in a new Dr. Pepper commercial called "Cherry Chocolate Rain."
