Is the Soap Opera in Yahoo's C-Suite Finally Ending?
After months of searching, the never-ending soap opera that is Yahoo Inc. might be coming to end. A final pick for new CEO could come as early as next week.
In the running is Carol Bartz, former CEO at Autodesk Inc. No longer on the list, apparently, is former Vodaphone Group PLC CEO Arun Sarin.
It appears that co-founder Jerry Yang's 18-month-long and highly controversial stint as Yahoo's interim CEO will come to an end. On his watch, the firm has seen hundreds of millions of market capitalization vanish and massive layoffs.
Bartz, 60, is said to bring to the party serious experience in running a publicly-held company, an obvious asset to topsy-turvey Yahoo. She may not be extremely Net savvy so they'll probably bring someone else in as well.
Yahoo has always had a kind of odd star power. I remember back when I was at Business Week in the 1990s and Tim Koogle was in charge. He was represented as a water walker and could do no wrong. One week, there as no mention of him in the book and those of us not involved with Yahoo coverage praised the issue for being "Koogle Free." We hoped they'd put a band on the magazine cover saying so. They didn't.
Last I heard, he is developing luxury resort real estate down Puerto Vallarta way.
