iPhone 6 rumors begin with a bigger screen

Apple's new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5Chave only been on the market a few weeks, but the tech world is already buzzing with rumors about what the next generation of iPhones will look like.

One thing many experts agree on is that the future iPhone 6 is likely to have a bigger screen display.

CNET reports the latest analyst to chime in on the subject, Brian White of Cantor Fitzgerald, believes a screen size of about 5 inches diagonal is in the works. The current iPhone 5, 5S and 5C models have a 4-inch screen.

In a memo quoted on the blog BGR.com, White said his contacts in the Apple supply chain expect the iPhone 6 to launch in the second or third quarter of 2014.

Several other analysts say, based on meetings with Apple suppliers, they expect to see a screen size of 4.7 or 4.8 inches.

Apple is facing increasing competition in the phone market from Android models with significantly bigger screens. The new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 "phablet" -- a cross between a phone and a tablet -- has a screen measuring 5.7 inches.
