Industry Moves: Bonnie Hammer Heading NBCU's Cable Entertainment

This story was written by Rafat Ali.

Jeff Zucker is pleased as a punch with how USA and SciFi networks are performing within NBC Universal's (NYSE: GE) bouquet of cable channels, so much so that the company has upped Bonnie Hammer to president, Cable Entertainment and Cable Studio...she will continue to report to Jeff Gaspin, president and COO, Universal Television Group, reports MCN.

NBCU Cable Studio is a newly created unit, and formerly part of Universal Media Studios. The studio is responsible for critically acclaimed shows including USA's Monk, Psych, The Starter Wife and In Plain Sight, and Sci Fi's Battlestar Galactica and Eureka. Hammer will also oversee NBC Universal's Emerging Networks group, comprising Chiller, Sleuth and Universal HD, which is led by Dan Harrison.

Meanwhile, Universal Media Studios will concentrate on developing series for NBC. Katherine Pope continues in her role as president of Universal Media, reporting to Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff. NYT: Pope is expected to generate more development of programs and digital content for the NBC network and its website. NBC intends, for example, to produce many more original short episodes of existing shows made for the Internet.
