(CBS/AP) JOLIET, Ill. - It was jealousy, not curiosity, that killed the cat this time.

Sean Mulcahy, 31, of Homer Glen, Ill. admitted that he slit the throat of his brother's cat in a jealous rage after his brother had an affair with his fiancee.

Mulcahy pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony animal-cruelty charge.

The 31-year-old killed the cat and then sent his brother a photo of his dead pet along with a text message that read "This is what you did to me," officials say.

According to a spokesman for the Will County state's attorney's office Mulcahy was "enraged and intoxicated" at the time of the attack last August.

Prosecutors had asked for a 3-month jail sentence, but the judged sentenced Mulcahy to 20 months of probation and 150 hours of community service.

Mulcahy is also banned from having a pet or any weapons while on probation.
