(CBS) BALTIMORE - The suspected "I-55 Bandit," accused of robbing a dozen banks across five states, is behind bars, reports CBS Baltimore.

The suspect, Andrew Maberry, 19, of O'Fallon, Ill., reportedly turned himself in in St. Louis following an FBI media blitz to identify him.

The string of crimes reportedly began with three bank robberies in near I-55 in St. Louis in May, reports the station. In each case, the suspect, sometimes wearing a baseball hat and sunglasses, passed a note to the teller implying he was armed and demanding money.

The suspect hit banks in Missouri, Illinois, Maryland, West Virginia and Tennessee, ABC reported.

Maberry is charged with one federal count of bank robbery, CBS Baltimore reports.
