How to Watch Videos on Your BlackBerry
Business Hacks reader Steve Nagan has this problem:
I recently started using a BlackBerry 8830 with 2 gigs of RAM. I have been searching for software I could use to download videos for viewing on the Blackberry, to no avail. The user manual is no help.Good news and bad news, Steve. The bad news is that TV and movie downloads are, for the moment, not a reality: iTunes is iPod-only, and Amazon Unbox caters exclusively to PlaysForSure devices (namely, Windows Mobile smartphones). The good news is that there are ways to get video onto your BlackBerry:
- DVDs and video clips Media Studio for BlackBerry ($34.95) promises two-click conversion of DVDs, recorded TV shows, and video files. Copy them to your BlackBerry's memory card and you're good to go.
- YouTube Videos You can watch a limited selection of YouTube videos by pointing your BlackBerry's browser to m.youtube.com. It's also possible to download YouTube vids to your hard drive, convert them to a BlackBerry-friendly format, and copy them to your device for anytime, anywhere viewing. The utility that makes it possible is BlackBerry Web Video Generator ($19.99), which is compatible with the Pearl and 8800 series.
