How to Turn Your Palm Pre into a Wi-Fi Router


Why spend big bucks on a portable 3G Wi-Fi router like the Verizon MiFi 2200 when your Palm Pre can do the same thing for free?

Over at the Palm Pre Hacks Blog, you can learn how to turn your Pre into a Wi-Fi router. That means you'll be able to share its high-speed Internet connection with your netbook, your notebook, your iPod Touch, and so on.

(If you're feeling generous, you can even let some Internet-starved friends or co-workers join the Wi-Fi party.)

Here's a video that shows you the basic steps; check back after for some caveats.



As you've probably deduced by now, this is a fairly hack-heavy process. You need to do things like access your Pre's Linux command-line, register for -- and install -- Palm's s

oftware development kit, and so on.

In other words, it's not for novices, and even tech-savvy users should follow the instructions to the letter. Neither Dave nor I have put this to the test yet, but you can bet that we will -- it's something we plan to cover in How to Do Everything - Palm Pre, our upcoming book.
