How to Sync Files Between PCs
It's a common scenario: You've got a work PC and a home PC, and invariably the file(s) you need are sitting on the "other" machine. What you need is an easy way to keep your files and folders in sync, so they're available (and always current) whether you're working at home or the office. Here are three free and effective solutions:
- GoodSync If you've got a USB flash drive, GoodSync makes for simple syncing between two machines, using the drive as the go-between.
- SyncBack More robust than GoodSync, SyncBack can sync not only to removable drives, but also FTP servers and network drives.
- SyncToy One of Microsoft's little-known XP/Vista PowerToys, SyncToy offers soup-to-nuts folder synchronization between PCs. It's not particularly well-documented, however, so check out this white paper for details.
