Authorities in Hood River, Oregon, say no injuries after reporting "active shooter situation"
Residential areas and businesses were evacuated and schools placed on lockdown in the northern Oregon town of Hood River Thursday afternoon, after the police responded to an "active shooter situation." The authorities later clarified that an "individual was contained in his house" and that only nearby residents needed to stay in place.
There were no reported injuries, police said.
A little after 12:30 p.m. local time, the Hood River Police Department reported "an active shooter situation" in an area near a Dairy Queen. The Hood River County School District said several area schools were placed on lockdown while local law enforcement searched for a person in the area, but two hours later school officials informed on Facebook that the lockdowns had been lifted "after law enforcement agencies located and surrounded the suspect."
Hood River is located about 60 miles east of Portland, on the Oregon-Washington border.
