Home Alone House For Sale

[Editor's note: The home sold in March of 2012 for $1.585 million]

The suburban Chicago home featured in the 1990 film that made Macaulay Culkin a household name, Home Alone, was placed up for sale this month.  The asking price to own an iconic piece of Hollywood history? Just $2.4 million.

Culkin's character, Kevin McCallister is accidentally left behind by his family in the 4,250 square foot, three-story home, over the Christmas holidays, after they depart for a vacation in Paris. Mayhem ensues as two would-be burglars find the tables turned on them by a mischievous Kevin, who sets booby traps for the criminals throughout the property's four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The home, located in the affluent town of Winnetka, is just blocks from the shores of Lake Michigan. The property was built in the 1920s and features a red-brick, Georgian-style architectural design. Of the four bedrooms, one is a four-room master suite, which stretches across the entire west wing of the dwelling.

Homeowners John and Cynthia Abendshien had been settled a mere 18 months before Chris Columbus approached the couple about using the property as a movie set.

"I think what attracted [screenwriter] John Hughes to the home is what's exemplified in the movie," Coldwell Banker agent Marissa Hopkins told AOL Real Estate. "It's a beautiful home with a lot of space and a warm feel. He liked to have real homes as his stage."

Do you want to spend your next Christmas living in a piece of cinematic history?
