Heat wave to blame for Hollywood burglary spree?
(CBS) HOLLYWOOD - Police say a recent heat wave could be a major factor in a string of residential and vehicle burglaries in East Hollywood.
The neighborhood has seen 10 break-ins over the last week, and eight of them were aided by an open or unlocked window, CBS Los Angeles reports.
"Those are very frightening for us because obviously if they are bold enough to go inside a home that is occupied, we are concerned about confrontations and how they may react should the homeowner confront them," said LAPD Officer Karen Rayner.
Out of the 10 reported burglaries, five came at night when the residents were home, while two occurred after the suspect removed a window screen or found an already open window where he or she could reach in and remove valuables within arm's reach.
The suspect or suspects entered residences as the occupants slept in the other three incidents, taking items such as small electronic devices, wallets and jewelry.
