Hear it first: Mariah Carey's song "Almost Home" from new "Oz" movie debuts

She's still hitting those high notes.

On Tuesday, singer Mariah Carey officially unveiled her latest single, "Almost Home," the theme to the upcoming Disney release "Oz The Great and Powerful."

Carey served as one of the writers and also co-produced the song with the Norwegian duo Stargate. The single has an inspirational tone and up-tempo beat.

"Almost Home" comes as the 43-year-old Carey continues to work on her upcoming album, expected to be released this spring. Her previous single, 2012's "Triumphant (Get 'Em)," fizzled with listeners. Carey's last album was 2010's "Merry Christmas II You."

Directed by Sam Raimi and based on L. Frank Baum's classic novels, "Oz The Great and Powerful" stars James Franco in the title role as a traveling magician who arrives in a fantasy world and sets out to find himself. The new film is set long before Dorothy finds her way to the magical land.

Carey's song lyrics about trying to get back to a familiar place are a nod to Oz's plight in the film. Have a listen for yourself here:

The song is now available for download on iTunes.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" opens March 8.
