Have Hair Like The Stars On The Red Carpet

Red carpet season kicks off Tuesday with the People's Choice Awards on CBS.

That means that it's time for celebrities to get glammed up from head to toe.

For fashionistas, the way the stars style their hair is just as important as anything they're wearing.

The Early Show's stylist to the stars, David Evangelista, offered pointers Monday to help you get your hair as gorgeous as some of Hollywood's most beautiful leading ladies.

He showed the looks favored by three of the hottest People's Choice Awards nominees. They're looks you can get, too, whenever you want a little dose of "glam."

THE UMA

Nominated for a People's Choice Award for "Favorite Female Action Star," Uma Thurman has a "high-end type of style," Evangelista says. "From Lacroix to Louis Vuitton, her taste runs very chic and very fashionable, as do her hairdos. Uma usually has a lot of texture happening with her do. Think of the Oscars in 2006, when she wore a beautiful Versace gold dress, and her hair was waved out put back into a chignon. She loves to wear her hair all off her face, or usually pulled back in some style when it comes to walking the red carpet for an awards ceremony."

Thurman's hair is fine, so any type of volumizer or volumizing mousse will plump off the cuticle and prepare it for styling tools. Prep hair by applying volumizer at the roots, mixed with volumizing mousse at the shaft and ends will give you an abundance of fullness. Blow dry hair using your fingers and start scrunching texture throughout the hair.

Then, take a one-inch curling iron and twirl one-inch sections around the iron. Set in place with a pin curl clip. Continue across the entire head. After hair has set and taken the wave, take out the clips and use your fingers to loosen up the roots. A tip: Flip your head upside down and shake your roots with fingers to loosen it up a bit.

Next, make two ponytails, one on top of another, leaving the sides of your hair out. Take the two ponytails and create a round type of bun pinning with bobby pins to hold in place. Then, take one side of the hair and separate into a few sections and pin back into the bun, forming a stylized messy creation, and do the same with the other side. Finish off with appropriate hair spray or hair shine.

THE CAMERON

A People's Choice Award nominee for "Favorite Leading Lady," Cameron Diaz is "known for her quirky takes on fashion and beauty," Evangelista says. "She is not afraid to take a chance with a dress or a hairstyle. Her style is a relaxed, carefree way of dressing, as is her hair."

For Diaz, Evangelista chose a high pony tail with the ends totally flat-ironed and flirty, similar to the one she recently sported at the London premiere of "The Holiday."

Prep hair by using a dab of gel and mousse and mix together for a strong hold. Blow-dry using a medium brush for volume. A tip: Sectioning off the hair with ensure a clean and perfect blow dry.

Next, spray a little aerosol hair spray at the roots and use your blow dryer to "create" texture. Pull hair back by first brushing with a Mason Pearson brush to ensure smoothness, and tie back in a ponytail with a snag proof elastic. Using a flat iron, take a small section of the ponytail and flat iron out to a sleek straight tail. Finish with hair spray or hair shine.

THE JENNIFER

A People's Choice Award nominee for "Favorite Movie Star," Jennifer Aniston is known as the "girl next door," Evangelista says. "This translates to her sense of style and beauty. Jennifer's hair has always been a sense of inspiration for women. When it comes to awards ceremonies, Jennifer usually always has her's down. Whether it is waved out or blown straight, it always looks healthy and shiny. For Jennifer, I chose to replicate a very straight and shiny style. This can be achieved a few different ways, using different tools. I love the T3 wet/dry iron; it seals in moisture and creates a very straight and shiny look. Also, a Mason Pearson brush can be used in conjunction with a flat iron, or a round boar bristle brush in conjunction with a flat iron."

To prep, apply a soft setting gel mixed with a drop of oil shine when hair is wet. Using a wet/dry iron, run iron through the hair from root to end, pulling hair straight down the shaft. Alternatively, using a round boar bristle brush, blow-dry hair from the root down, pointing the dryer nozzle straight down the hair shaft as you dry. After hair is dry, run a flat iron from root to tip all around the head. Finish with a light-hold hair spray and/or spray shine.
