Hank Williams Jr. slams "Fox & Friends," ESPN in new song
(CBS) Hank Williams Jr. isn't happy with his high profile split from ESPN and ABC due to his remarks about President Barack Obama, and he's not just shouting about it: He's singing about it.
Williams Jr. new song, "I'll Keep My...," is scheduled to be out on iTunes on Tuesday. The singer hinted at the release through a behind-the-scenes video of him recording the song on his official website. Williams told Tribune Media Services he started writing the song on the morning of Oct. 7 and recorded it in Nashville later that afternoon.
According to the Tribune Wire Services, the lyrics to one of the verses are as follows: "So Fox 'n Friends wanna put me down / Ask for my opinion / Twist it all around / Well two can play that gotcha game you'll see." He also calls the U.S. "The United Socialist States of America."
ESPN let Williams Jr. go -- or if you believe his story, he quit in protest -- after the country singer made remarks on "Fox & Friends" comparing a golf game between Speaker of the House John Boehner and Obama to a hypothetical match up between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Adolf Hitler, Rolling Stone reported. The singer is best known for singing the theme song for Monday Night Football.
Earlier, the singer announced on his website that he will be on "The View" and "Hannity" on Oct. 11 to discuss his views. "Whoopi and Joy understood what I was saying," Williams Jr. said on his website. "After watching the clip of their show, I knew I needed to talk to them first. Who knows Whoopi may run for President and I'll be her Vice President...now that will really stir it up!"
