Gwyneth Paltrow A Mom-To-Be
A publicist says actress Gwyneth Paltrow, 31, is expecting her first child.
A statement says Paltrow and boyfriend Chris Martin, 26, are "pleased," but it didn't mention any wedding plans. Martin is frontman for the British band Coldplay. The two have been dating for the past year.
In a recent BBC interview, Paltrow said she hopes to marry — but wouldn't reveal if that meant Martin.
Paltrow most recently starred in the film "Sylvia," the story of Sylvia Plath, the American writer whose stormy marriage to British poet Ted Hughes ended in her suicide.
Paltrow says Plath's suffering helped her understand the emotional pain she was experiencing after losing her father, television creator Bruce Paltrow, who died in October 2002 after suffering complications from pneumonia following a long battle with throat cancer.
The actress had signed onto the film before her father died and decided to honor her obligation. She had some family help in the making of the movie. Her mother, Blythe Danner, plays her mother.
"It was so nice being with her and having her around it was just very comforting," Paltrow says.
Paltrow won the Academy Award for best actress for her role in 1998's "Shakespeare in Love."
Coldplay first hit U.S. airwaves with the single "Yellow." Their album "Parachutes" earned rave reviews and climbed high on the pop charts.
The band's second album, "A Rush of Blood to the Head" won critical acclaim, and two 2003 Grammy awards including best alternative album and best rock performance by a group for the track "In My Place."
