Grizzlies' Lose Lee Mayberry
Lee Mayberry will undergo surgery on his right ankle and miss 3-8 weeks for the Vancouver Grizzlies, the team said Sunday.
Mayberry is scheduled for arthroscopic surgery Thursday to repair damage from wear and tear throughout his career. He has not practiced since last Thursday.
Mayberry, entering his seventh NBA season, was expected to challenge Mike Bibby last June's No. 2 overall pick for the starting job at point guard.
The Grizzlies have only one other point guard, Bobby Hurley, on their roster. Hurley, however, was not invited to camp and the Grizzlies are expected to move him prior to the start of the season.
Felipe Lopez, a natural shooting guard selected 24th overall by San Antonio last June and then dealt to the Grizzlies on draft day, has been working out as a point guard in camp.
