Google Voice Explained in 92 Seconds

Confession time: I've read about Google Voice for years (dating back to when it was GrandCentral), written about it half a dozen times, and even signed up for it -- but I'm still not sure what the hell it is.

I mean, I know it can ring my home, office, and mobile numbers simultaneously, but beyond that, it's still kind of a head-scratcher to me.

Google knows I'm not the only one, hence the creation of nearly a dozen videos that explain various Google Voice features. Here's the first one, aptly named What is Google Voice? Take a look:

Okay, that clears things up a bit. Want to know more? Ten other vids await your eyeballs:

  1. Voicemail transcription
  2. One number
  3. Personalized greetings
  4. International calling
  5. SMS to email
  6. Share voicemails
  7. Block callers
  8. Screen callers
  9. Mobile app
  10. Conference calls
Good stuff, but I think the big stumbling block for many users is that switching to Google Voice means adopting a new phone number. You can keep your existing number, but then you forfeit some of the cooler features.

What do you think? Do these videos help clear up some of the mystery surrounding Google Voice? Or are you still in the "Not sure what it really does for me" camp? Let your voice (pun!) be heard in the comments.
