(CBS News) Google will reportedly unveil a $199 7-inch tablet computer at the Google I/O conference Wednesday, according to a recent report.

Google has partnered with Tawainese company Asustek Computer to launch a co-branded tablet that will run a new version of the Android mobile operating system, anonymous sources close to the matter told Bloomberg. The exact specifications of the Google tablet have not been reported.

The price point and size of the Google tablet is poised to compete with the Barnes & Noble Nook and Amazon Kindle Fire - both are 7-inch tablets running a version of Android. However, some speculate that the tablet may ultimately battle it out with the Apple iPad and Microsoft Surface for market share.

Microsoft launched its Surface 10-inch tabletlast week, which will run the Windows 8 mobile operating system. The software giant has yet to specify pricing or availability.

Apple's iPad is arguably the most hyped 10-inch tablet on the market. The company reported three million new iPads sold on its first weekend of launch in March.

Google I/O developers conference is held at San Francisco's Moscone Center from June 27 to 29.
