Google commemorates "I have a dream" speech with doodle
Google is marking the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington with a doodle that honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who delivered the historic "I have a dream" speech that day.
Originally called the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, the gathering brought together about 250,000 Americans in what was considered the largest demonstration at the time.
In the speech, King called for the end racism in the United States. While he referred to the Emancipation Proclamation as a momentous decree, King criticized the slow progress of American race relations -- stating that the African-American experience was that of isolated poverty in the midst of a prosperous country.
King's speech is widely considered one of the most iconic in American history. The address took place at the Lincoln Memorial on Aug. 28, 1963.
