Glimmering Holiday Makeup
Now that the holiday season has arrived, it's time to figure out how to look fabulous for all those parties you'll be attending over the next few weeks.
Celebrity makeup artist Paula Dorf visits The Early Show to demonstrate the following three looks to make you look like a holiday glamour gal in no time.
Sugar Plum Fairy Look
Model: Filipa
This look was inspired from ballet's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," using plums to complement the skin tone. The focus is on the eyes, using glimmer for a sultry look, and calls for a pink soft lip, which allows the emphasis to be on the eyes.
Eyes: Using a flat brush that's rounded at the top, Dorf applies an eye shadow base sparingly over entire lid. She then pats a light purple glimmer shadow over the entire lid with a brush. Next, Dorf applies a medium purple-grey glimmer shadow using an eye-contour brush, sweeping slightly above crease in a windshield-wiper motion. Finally, she uses a brush to apply lavender glimmer shadow to the outer corner of eye.
For eyeliner, Dorf places a few drops of an eyeliner sealer (you could use water, too) into an eye-shadow container lid and dips a brush into solution. She glides the brush along outer edge of a black-with-silver-glimmer shadow and lines they eyes close to the lash line. To finish up, she curls lashes, and applies a lash primer (for extra fullness) and mascara.
Cheeks: Dorf applies a pinky bronze cream blush with a blush brush designed for cream blushes (a tip for where to place the color: smile and place brush on apple of cheek and sweep towards hairline. For long- lasting color, apply a similar color powder blush over the cream blush. This will set the cream).
Lips: Dorf applies a pink lipstick with lip brush then lines lips with a comparable shade liner, and finishes with gloss.
Golden Goddess Look
Model: Laura
Golden tones create a beautiful holiday look. A dewy bronze-tinted moisturizer with glimmer brings out the natural beauty of the skin while the glimmer adds a nice glow. Using gold tones on the eyelid makes the eyes pop out, while the use of green in the crease creates definition and depth.
Eyes: Using the appropriate brush, again, Dorf applies an eye shadow base sparingly over entire lid (the base helps color stay in place throughout the day, keeping it from feathering or wearing off). She pats a white-with-gold-flecks shadow over the entire lid with a brush. Next, she applies hunter green glimmer shadow with an eye-contour brush, sweeping slightly above crease in a windshield-wiper motion. Then Dorf applies a copper gold glimmer shadow to the lower lid with brush. To line, again Dorf uses the liquid/shadow technique, this time dipping the moistened brush into a brown eye shadow, and lines the eyes. A few coats of mascara, and the eyes are complete.
Face: For the glowing skin needed for this look, Dorf applies a bronze moisturizing-tint with glimmer. Next, she applies a pink glimmer blush with a brush.
Lips: Dorf applies a sheer bronze lipstick with a lip brush; then lines lips with a comparable shade liner. She finishes the lips with gold gloss.
Holiday Spice Look
Model: Kelley
Natural warm colors keep up with the holiday cheer. For the eye, layered neutral tones create a subtle elegance. A spicy pink blush adds a hint of color, a pop to the cheeks.
Eyes: Dorf pats a warm brown shadow over the entire lid using an eyeshadow brush. Next, she applies a reddish brown shadow using an eye-contour brush, sweeping slightly above the crease in a windshield-wiper motion. With a smaller brush, she applies a chocolate bronze glimmer shadow to the outer corner of the eye. Next, she applies a pinky bronze shadow to the lower lid with a small eyeshadow brush. To line, again Paula uses the moistened brush application; this time using a black shadow with gold flecks in it. She curls the lashes, and applies a few coats of black mascara.
Face: Again, for glowing skin, Dorf applies a bronze moisturizing-tint with glimmer. On the cheeks, she uses a vibrant pink blush with a blush brush.
Lips: To finish this Holiday Spice look, Dorf applies a brick red gloss (one that's thicker than your usual gloss, giving color and shine to your lips).
