Glenn Lott, Mich. man, accused of beating and stabbing his golf partner with a club

(CBS) OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich.-- Police arrested a man for allegedly stabbing his golf partner with the broken shaft of a Callaway 5-iron after the two got into an argument on Thursday, according to The Oakland Press.

The paper said the dispute was over how many strokes the suspect, Glenn Steven Lott, 59, took on the 12th hole.

Police said the two other members of the golf foursome told them that Lott's attack on the victim was unprovoked, reported The Oakland Press.

Jimmy Mehlberg, the manager at Westwynd Golf Course told the paper that Lott "always came across as a pretty nice guy," said the paper.

"I couldn't even believe this happened," the course manager added.

According to Mehlberg, a member of the course who lives nearby called Mehlberg complaining that two men were arguing loudly on the 13th hole, reported The Oakland Press.

"I started to send a course ranger out there...after I got another (complaint) from another member of the course, I called the authorities," Mehlberg told the paper.

Police said they arrived to the course around 1 p.m., and after investigating the incident, they found that Lott had broken a club in half when he hit his 65-year-old golfing companion in the arm with it, said The Oakland Press.

According to police, the victim told them that Lott used the broken club to stab him in the same arm, cutting him several times, reported the paper. The victim then said he drove the golf cart to the clubhouse while the other members of the foursome held Lott down.

Sheriff's deputies said Lott allegedly broke free and ran after the victim, "screaming the entire time that he was 'going to get him," said the paper.

The victim was treated at the scene by emergency personnel and later received several stitches at a local urgent care facility.

Lott was taken to Oakland County Jail, reported The Oakland Press, where he was arraigned via video from the jail.
