GLAAD honors Josh Hutcherson, Chaz Bono, Betty White

(CBS News) "The Hunger Games" star Josh Hutcherson was honored at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles with the organizations Vanguard Award.

The Vanguard Award is given to a person who has made a significant different in promoting equal rights for the LGBT community. The 19-year-old actor is the youngest ever recipient of the honor.

"My story begins with equal rights before I was even born," Hutcherson said on stage Saturday, after he received the award from actor Benicio Del Toro. "My mom was raised by a big family, and two people in that family were her uncles, Steve and Jamie. They were both gay...and also both happened to pass away from AIDS right as I was being born. Being honored with this award goes to them 100 percent."

Previous winners of the Vanguard Award include Drew Barrymore, Kristin Chenoweth and Kathy Griffin.

Transgender star Chaz Bono recived the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, an award that goes to an openly LGBT member of the entertainment or media industries. Bono's mother Cher showed up to surprise him, presenting the award along with stepmother Rep. Mary Bono Mack.

Other honorees at Saturday night's ceremony were ABC's "Modern Family" for comedy series, Focus Features drama "Beginners" starring Ewan McGregor and supporting actor Oscar winner Christopher Plummer for wide-release film, and Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva" and TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland" in a tie for individual TV episode.
