Giuliani Billed Obscure City Agencies For Security Expenses, Reports Politico

The Politico is reporting that Rudy Giuliani "billed obscure city agencies for tens of thousands of dollars in security expenses amassed during the time when he was beginning an extramarital relationship with future wife Judith Nathan in the Hamptons."

They include "agencies responsible for regulating loft apartments, aiding the disabled and providing lawyers for indigent defendants." Politico obtained government records revealing this information through a Freedom of Information Act request.

In 2001, a New York City auditor reportedly questioned the fact that "$34,000 worth of travel expenses buried in the accounts of the New York City Loft Board." The mayor's office, citing, "security," would not explain the billing.

A Giuliani campaign spokesperson told CBS News, "This is common practice. The NYPD is responsible for providing security for the Mayor of New York around the clock."

"...I can tell you categorically from what I know of it, absolutely nothing was done improperly," said Rep. Peter King, who has endorsed Giuliani. "Everything was done the way that it should have been done."

"To me there's no story there," he added. "The mayor will give all the details."
