Girls At Work

"Girls," a pop chanteuse once sang, "just wanna have fun." And for many girls, what could be more fun than a day off from school to visit a parent's workplace?

It can — and should be — much more. "Take Our Daughters To Work Day" is a holiday created by the Ms. Foundation For Women that is intended to give girls insight into the work world, and to bolster a girl's self-esteem in a culture in which beauty has often taken precedence over intelligence and accomplishment.

To get ready for this year's day, Thursday, April 23, take a look at how bringing your daughter to work can be rewarding for her; check a list of event resources in your area; and find organizations devoted to helping parents enrich girls' self esteem.

You can even crank up a workplace live cam for a view of a celebration at a workplace in New York City's "Silicon Alley."

The Office Apprentice

Your daughter's day in the workplace can be more than a chance for her to skip gym class. Here's what you can do to make this a rewarding educational opportunity for her.

Confidence-Building Organizations

Many organizations seek to rebuild confidence lost in adolescence. Connect with the groups that can get your daughter on track for success.

Our Daughters At Home

As girls enter adolescence, their self-esteem and ambition take a nosedive, studies show. Here's how you can help your daughter hold onto her dreams.
