Girl Who Fell 100 Ft. From Park Ride Going Home

The 13-year-old Florida girl who fell ten stories from an amusement park ride in Wisconsin is finally going home after nearly three months of hospital care.

Teagan Marti was severely injured on July 30 after falling 100 feet from the Terminal Velocity ride at Extreme World in Wisconsin Dells - with no safety net to catch her.

Marti still can't walk and is using a motorized wheelchair.

She has been recovering since the July accident at the Jackson Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Center in Miami, reports The Miami Herald.

Doctors cannot say if she will walk again.

The Herald's Robert Samuels writes that, from her fall, Marti suffered 10 fractures in her spine, a crushed pelvis and chipped teeth, as well as blood loss to the head.

When she was transferred to the hospital in Miami last month, she could not sit up or eat solid food. She could barely talk. Her muscle strength was evaluated at the extreme low-end of the scale.

But her spinal cord was stretched, not severed, giving hope that she will one day regain mobility.

Teagan participates in therapy sessions to retrain her how to sit, stand and apply weight to her legs.

Her parents are hopeful - Teagan has made progress more quickly than they ever imagined. Her muscle strength is improving. And she can smile.

Marti told the Herald she misses her pets and looks forward to returning to her Parkland home Monday.

On Sunday in Marti's hometown, children and adults helped to raise money for her long-term home therapy by participating in a walk-a-thon for her, organized by Margaux's Miracle Foundation.

"It means so much, it's just overwhelming," Teagan's mother, Julie Marti, told CBS Station WFOR correspondent Gio Benitez.

The Wisconsin Department of Commerce has said the operator at the top of the Terminal Velocity ride did not follow protocol when Marti fell.

The report says Marti was dropped before the cage in which she was riding reached the top and before a net was in proper position.

The ride operator, Charles Carnell, has been charged with felony reckless injury.

Marti's lawyer says he's reached a settlement with Extreme World but he couldn't release any details; the court still has to approve it.
