Getting To Know The Popular Web Series "Know Your Meme"

The success of the daily Web show, RocketBoom, was a launching pad for their next video venture in 2007, Know Your Meme. Shot on-site at the Rocketboom Institute for Internet Studies, their scientists document and give us a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the best and most noteworthy memes around.

Before we move along, a meme is a phrase used to describe a catchphrase or concept that spreads quickly from person to person via the Internet. So now that that's out of the way, let's continue. In an awesome twist of Internet fate, Know Your Meme, has become as popular as the Web trends they track, being named by Time Magazine as one of the top 50 Web sites to track in 2009. I did some of my own meme research recently with the help of the show's very own host/scientist Ellie Rountree:

So what are some of top memes of 2009? My favorite social media site- did a great list, which included:

1)Susan Boyle- The "Britain's Got Talent" contestant struck a chord with the world and got over 100 million on YouTube watching her first audition singing a cut from "Les Miserables" for the judges.

2)A baby's dancing to Beyonce's "All The Single Ladies" - That beat just inspires everyone to shake their booty, even tots.

3)The JK Wedding Dance - This infamous walk down the aisle to R&B star Chris Brown's "Forever" will go down in the wedding history books.

4)Play him off, Keyboard Cat - Cats seem to be a go-to meme theme, and Keyboard Cat hit all the right keys.

5)Kanye West and Taylor Swift onstage at the VMA's - The completely rude moment where West takes the microphone and interrupts 19-year old Swift to say Beyonce should've instead won the award, brought in record views for MTV.
