Get Your Hotmail in Outlook and other POP3 Mail Clients

Web mail is great, but to be perfectly honest, I like to be able to view all my mail accounts -- Hotmail, Gmail, and others -- in Outlook. Since the dawn of time, Hotmail has been a thorn in my side, forcing me to visit the Web for my latest mail. At long last, you can now pull your Hotmail messages into any mail client that supports POP3.

Here are the settings you need to know to configure your mail client for Hotmail:

  • POP server: pop3.live.com
  • POP SSL required? Yes
  • User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com
  • Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
  • SMTP server: smtp.live.com
  • Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
  • TLS/SSL required? Yes.
