Get 5GB of Free Online Storage from Windows Live SkyDrive

Remember Windows Live SkyDrive, Microsoft's free file-sharing and -storage service? When I first wrote about it last August, it limited users to a paltry 500MB of space. But last week, Microsoft bumped the cap to 5 gigabytes, making SkyDrive a lot more useful.

What's more, SkyDrive is now available to users in 38 different countries/regions, from Argentina to Turkey. And thanks to various bug fixes and improvements, SkyDrive is no longer in beta -- it's officially a finished product.

In case you missed it the first time around, SkyDrive offers personal, shared, and public folders; drag-and-drop file uploading; password protection; and compatibility with both Windows and Mac systems.

Amazingly, Google still trails in this category: Although Firefox extensions like Gspace let you leverage your Gmail account for online file storage, Google still doesn't have a SkyDrive to call its own -- yet. [via Web Worker Daily]
