George Jones hospitalized, postpones shows

George Jones was hospitalized on Thursday, forcing him to postpone two upcoming shows.

The 81-year-old country singer went in for a routine check-up when doctors found he was running a slight fever and had irregular blood pressure, according to news release on Jones' website. He has been admitted to a local Nashville hospital for observation.

Jones has since pulled out of this weekend's concerts in Atlanta and Salem, Va. He has been on the road as part of a "goodbye tour" that winds down on Nov. 22 with a Nashville concert featuring Garth Brooks, Dierks Bentley, Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, Don McLean, Billy Ray Cyrus, Cyndi Lauper and other guests.

This isn't the first time Jones has faced health issues on the road. Last May, he entered the hospital briefly for respiratory issues. The Country Hall of Famer, who lives in Franklin, Tenn., was also hospitalized overnight in January 2011 after a routine annual exam.
