(CBS) Brad Pitt has been sporting a cane over the past couples of weeks, but he had to go without at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night - for just a few minutes.

Fellow Hollywood star George Clooney swiped Pitt's prior to hitting the stage at the 69th annual awards show.

The crowd giggled as Clooney walked on stage with the cane. While introducing a clip from Pitt's "Moneyball," Clooney started waving the cane around, garnering big laughs from the audience. "I have to give it back to him," he said. "He can't make it to the bar otherwise."

Pitt has been using a cane since slipping and injuring himself while carrying his daughter Vivienne.

Earlier in the week, Clooney said he was looking forward to the Globes, especially host Ricky Gervais' performance. "I really like him," Clooney told USA Today. "He makes me laugh. I was backstage with him, I guess it was at the Emmys and we had a really fun time. I enjoy him, so I'm looking forward to it."
