Gays Not Completely Banned From Super Bowl Ads: Did You Spot Motorola's Kitchen Couple?
Just because CBS didn't allow Mancrunch.com to buy a Super Bowl ad didn't mean gays were completely banned from the big game. If you didn't blink there were clearly two gay men, obviously in a relationship, in Motorola (MOT)'s ad (video below).
In the spot, Megan Fox soaks in a bubble-filled tub as she takes a photo of herself with her phone. Then she wonders what would happen if she sent it out.
Various comical disasters ensue as distracted men examine the photo on their phones. In a series of quick cuts, a man is slapped by his wife, and then two gay men slap each other, ostensibly as punishment for looking at the picture, as they face off in a kitchen. You can tell they're gay because one is standing with his hand on his hip, and the pair are wearing pink and purple shirts. All gays wear pink and purple, right?
Does it matter that it took a spot featuring rabid heterosexual mascot Megan Fox to include a pair of gays during a Super Bowl ad?So, congratulations to Motorola and its ad agency, New York's Anomaly. You slipped some gays into the Super Bowl. Albeit by insulting them for comic relief. You must be ... proud? And does it matter that, in an ad obviously aimed at heterosexual men, the representation of the gays comes down to bitchy queens slapping each other?
It's like we have to complain about everything!
