(CBS/KIRO) FIFE, Wash. - Police in the central Washington city of Fife arrested a father and mother early Monday morning, after they allegedly left their 3-year-old daughter in a motel on Father's Day and went gambling at a nearby casino, according to CBS affiliate KIRO.

Police in the community east of Tacoma said the couple, a 22-year-old man from Tacoma and 21-year-old woman from Lakebay, checked into the Sunshine Motel, left the toddler in their room, and went to the Emerald Queen Casino for a night of gambling. Other guests at the motel spotted the little girl on a balcony crying for her parents, and called police late Sunday night, said Lt. Tom Thompson.

Officers arrested the couple when they returned to the room around 1 a.m. on Monday. They were booked into the Pierce County Jail on charges of abandonment, as well as drug charges, KIRO reported.

They are expected to make a court appearance Tuesday.
