Free Shipping Day: Here's What You Need to Know

Forget Cyber Monday. My new favorite day to shop online is Friday, December 17th, which is officially known as Free Shipping Day. Here's what you need to know to take advantage of this promotion:

Skip the Mall

  • Free Shipping Day was started three years ago by the folks who created FreeShipping.org, which gathers free shipping coupon codes through out the year. Take advantage of this promotion and you're also guaranteed delivery by Christmas Eve.
  • This year over 1,500 merchants plan to participate in Free Shipping Day. Some big names include Barnes & Noble, Disney Store, ProFLowers and Harry & David.
  • You may be thinking many merchants are already offering free shipping. That's true. But some retailers are dropping their minimum purchase requirements for free shipping during Friday's promotion, says Luke Knowles, the founder of Free Shipping Day. (You may still encounter some minimums if the company needs to upgrade the shipping method to get you your gifts by Christmas Eve, he says.)
  • Where can you find the shipping deals? Some retailers may list them directly on their websites. Others may require you to first find them on FreeShippingDay.com since you may need to click on a specific link to activate the promotion, says Knowles.
  • Best of all, if you take advantage of Free Shipping Day you can easily justify why you always shop at the last minute.
Do you plan to take advantage of Free Shipping Day? Or are you already done with your holiday shopping?
