Foursquare holds a global hackathon
(CBS) - On September 17 and 18, developers from around the world joined in for the Foursquare global hackathon. With Meetup locations in New York, San Francisco, Paris and Japan, the event produced some imaginative, hilarious and useful apps.
Developers had two days to build apps from scratch and present them on Sunday afternoon, local time. We were there to view the demonstrations at General Assembly in New York and saw everything from an app that rates bathrooms by cross-referencing gross photos to motivation apps to help meet personal goals.
Voting is still underway and closes September 20 at 12 p.m. EST. Visit the polling page to see a list of all hacks that are competing for the grand prize.
Prizes include an app demo on the NASDAQ screen in Times Square, a trip to New York City and dinner with investor Bryce Roberts and Foursquare's co-founder Naveen Selvadurai, among other prizes.
Foursquare is a location-based application that lets users check-in to a venue to unlock discounts and badges. Founded in 2008 by Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai, the app has over 10 million worldwide users.
