Fla. man convicted of killing wife after she refused to kiss him

CBS/AP

(CBS/AP) SANFORD, Fla. - A jealous central Florida man was convicted Thursday of killing his wife, allegedly because she refused to kiss him after she came home late.

A Seminole County Jury convicted 43-year-old Evangelista Lopez of second-degree murder for shooting his wife six times in September 2007.

The Orlando Sentinel reports Lopez is to be sentenced next month. He faces a maximum of life in prison.

Lopez confessed to killing his wife, Marilyn Lopez, 46, after she came home at 3 a.m. and he suspected she was with someone else. When she refused to kiss him, he took out and loaded a .357-caliber handgun and shot her six times.

Lopez was originally convicted of his wife's murder two years ago, but the conviction was thrown out after an appeals court found jurors weren't properly instructed during the trial.
