Find Better Travel Deals at Foreign Websites

If you're traveling out of the US, you might want to reserve your airplane tickets and rental cars through a website based out of the country you're going to. An article in the New York Times Travel section found that you can often save a significant amount of money on all sorts of travel expenses simply by adding the host country's top-level domain—hertz.es instead of hertz.com, for example. That's because in-country companies don't deal with exchange rates and have often worked out deals with local suppliers that aren't shown on the international sites. A caveat: every once in a while, these sites require a local credit card, so try to have someone in that country to make the arrangements for you.
