Figure-Flattering Spring Fashions

In the latest Chic on a Shoestring, The Early Show takes a look at figure-flattering spring fashions.

Glamour magazine's executive fashion editor-at-large, Suze Yalof Schwartz, says if you think you can't wear this season's hottest trends, you're wrong. Each month, Glamour magazine provides you with tips on finding the best look for your body.

Schwarz put The Early Show co-anchors Rene Syler and Hannah Storm as well as California's first lady, Maria Shriver, to the test to select the steal from the splurge.

Before providing some samples that look great no matter what your figure is, Schwartz noted about Shriver, "I'm a little nervous because she's a clothes' horse, and you always look amazing."

Shriver did amazingly well, picking the steal every time. Hannah came in second and Rene was last.

In essence, you don't have to spend a fortune to look fabulous with the following looks:

White Blazer With Denim
The first look is all about the white blazer and the denim. Denim continues to be popular, according to Schwarz. This season, cuffing denim to your ankles is "in." Schwarz says a white blazer is a great way to dress up jeans. So, she says, don't be afraid to wear white. The jackets demonstrated on The Early Show are tailored and will look great on full-figured women.

Schwarz recommends pairing the white blazer with a colorful top. She says don't be afraid to wear color because it shows confidence, which is sexy.

Splurge:
Silk/Cashmere Scarf, Malo, $485
Silk Jacket, Stephan, $580
Cashmere Top, Theory, $195
Stretch Jean, A.B.S., $128
Designer Pump, Stuart Weitzman, $295

Jacket, Ellen Tracy, $199
Cotton Top, Lane Bryant, $34
Stretch Jean, Lane Bryant, $39
Leather Pump, Steve Madden, $69
Bag, Guess, $62

Total: $445

What's the Difference?

  • One outfit has a silk jacket and the jacket from the steal outfit is made of cotton.
  • The sweaters are cashmere vs. cotton.
  • The scarves are cashmere vs. acrylic.

    Lingerie-Inspired Looks
Lingerie-inspired looks are all over the runway this season. Schwartz says the lace camisole makes the outfit feminine. Wear the cardigan over it to work and remove it for a night out.

    Steal:
    Cotton Cardigan, Club Monaco, $69
    Polyester Tank, Banana Republic, $48
    Cotton Skirt, I.N.C., $69
    Pumps, Carlos, $82
    Bag, Franco Sarto, $69

    Total: $337

    Splurge:

    Cashmere Cardigan, Barneys, $350
    Silk Tank, Samantha Chang, $150
    Lined/Wool Skirt, Dana Buchman, $230
    Pump, Stuart Weitzman, $295
    Bag, Samantha Root, $275

    Total: $1,300

    What's the Difference?

  • The Barneys cardigan is more expensive because it's 100 percent cashmere, while the Club Monaco one is made of cotton.
  • The prices for camisoles differ because one is silk and the other is polyester.

    Cropped Pants
Cropped pants and off-the-shoulder tops are huge trends this season, according to Glamour magazine. If you are going to wear one bright color this season - make it yellow.

    Splurge:
    Top, C&C, $60
Cotton W/Stretch Cropped Pant, Theory, $200
    Suede Pump, Jimmy Choo, $375
Burlap/Made To Order Bag, Jemima Jackman, $200

    Total: $ 835

    Steal:

    Top, Express, $19.50
    Cotton Cropped Pant, Gap, $44
    Leather Pumps, Bebe, $69
    Leather Bag, Club Monaco,-$69

    Total: $201.50

    What's the Difference?

  • The bags differ in price because the club Monaco is mass produced while the Jemima Jackman bag is individually made to order.
  • The shoes are leather vs. suede.
