FBI Raids 'E-Twins' Brokerage

The FBI searched the home Wednesday of an Internet adoption broker at the center of an international dispute over twin baby girls and authorities removed three children from the house.

Federal agents were seen carrying away a computer and several boxes from the home of Tina Johnson in El Cajon, a suburb east of San Diego.

San Diego County's Child Protective Services agency removed two infants and a toddler from the home, which is protected by a wrought iron gate.

Authorities gave no information about the identity of the children or their relationship to Johnson.

FBI spokeswoman Jan Caldwell would only say that agents searched a house in El Cajon, but declined to release any details.

The affidavit for the warrant was ordered sealed by a federal judge.

The FBI previously has acknowledged that Johnson is under investigation for allegations of mail and wire fraud in connection with her Internet-based adoption brokerage.

A couple from Highland, in San Bernardino County, said they adopted twin girls from Johnson's brokerage, A Caring Heart, but lost them to a British couple who paid more. Other couples also have claimed Johnson accepted fees for adoptions that were never completed.

Johnson, through a spokeswoman, said in January that she took fees to facilitate adoption and did not sell children to the highest bidder.

Neither Johnson nor her lawyer immediately returned a phone call seeking comment Wednesday.
