Farrah Fawcett: Remember Her?
NEW YORK (CBS) Remember Farrah Fawcett?
On the first anniversary of their deaths, Michael Jackson has once again eclipsed actress Farrah Fawcett.
The 62-year-old "Charlie's Angels" star died after a long battle with cancer on June 25, 2009. For a few hours, news of her death dominated entertainment headlines. Then it became a footnote to the extensive coverage of the death of pop legend Michael Jackson.
Today , Jackson is being remembered by fans around the globe. Fawcett is remembered with the opening of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, which is funding alternative forms of cancer research and clinical trials, with an emphasis on anal and pediatric cancers.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned Friday in Beverly Hills for the offices of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, which Fawcett herself started several years ago while she was in the middle of her own fight against the disease.
Fawcett's long-time friend Alana Stewart, who also is the foundation's president, is expected to celebrate the grand-opening and is donating a portion of the proceeds from her book, "My Journey with Farrah," to the foundation.
Meanwhile, Fawcett's long-time partner, actor Ryan O'Neal, was interviewed Friday on "Today" and said their 25-yar-old son, Redmond, is sober and living in California. Redmond was in jail on drug charges when his mother died.
"His mother would be proud of him," O'Neal said.
